Reserve Your Table: Annual Celebration of Philanthropy

The Community Foundation's Annual Celebration of Philanthropy is scheduled for Wed., May 8 at 4:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Loveland. This new venue will provide our guests with more convenient parking, a more centralized location in Northern Colorado, and a larger space to bring together more people who care about our region.

This year’s program will highlight our community’s extraordinary generosity in response to the High Park and Woodland Heights fires.

The generous support of sponsors makes this celebration possible. Please click here to reserve your table or contact our team at 970-368-ACOP [2267] with questions.

Donor Spotlight: Chris and Heidi Baker

Written by Heidi Baker, fund advisor for the Chris and Heidi Baker Family Fund.

Chris and I moved to Fort Collins in 1994, just before our oldest daughter was born, so that Chris could join a local employment background screening company. Approximately 10 years later we purchased a similar company of our own, and under Chris' leadership, Tandem Select grew 700%. We sold Tandem Select in late 2011, and Chris recently started a new venture, MinifyMusic. I've homeschooled our daughters, but as they grow more independent I'm looking forward to activities of my own. We feel blessed to live in Northern Colorado; we've raised two daughters here and we love both the area and the community.

We created a fund with the Community Foundation in 2011 for several reasons. We liked that we could donate to organizations we already knew, believed in, and had relationships with; examples include The Alpha Center, locally, and World Vision, internationally. We also liked that we could learn about other reputable charities through the Community Foundation. We're pleased that our donation is invested and that the money has the potential to be replenished in part, meaning we could have more to give away. Furthermore, the gift we made in one year could last for many years. Finally, we preferred the ability to direct some of our assets to causes we care about, and away from taxes. Our experience has been wonderful, and members of the staff facilitate our grants with tremendous expertise.
